It’s the news no Jaguars fan wanted to hear — rookie standout Travis Hunter is officially done for the season after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The team announced that Hunter suffered a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injury during a non-contact practice drill back on October 30th, and tests later confirmed he’d need surgery.

The procedure went well, according to the Jaguars, and there’s no major structural damage beyond the LCL. The recovery timeline is expected to be around six months, meaning Hunter should be ready to go again by next offseason.

Hunter’s rookie year showed flashes of what made him the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He proved that the hype was real — lining up at both wide receiver and cornerback, showing elite speed, instincts, and confidence on both sides of the ball. In just eight games, he racked up 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown, while also holding his own on defense.

Head coach Doug Pederson spoke highly of Hunter’s work ethic and attitude through the process, saying,

“It’s a tough break for Travis, but he’s handled it the right way. The kid loves football, and we know he’s going to come back even better next year.”

Hunter’s loss is a big one for Jacksonville. Offensively, they’ll lean more on Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. to keep things moving.

At just 22 years old, Hunter’s story is far from over. His rare two-way skillset makes him one of the most exciting young players in the NFL, and if his college and early NFL career have shown anything, it’s that he knows how to bounce back.

Jaguars fans — and football fans in general — will be eager to see him return next season and pick up right where he left off.
