Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge are once again at the top of the baseball world after winning the NL and AL MVP awards. It honestly feels like every year these two find a way to remind everyone why they’re the faces of the sport.
Ohtani won the National League MVP unanimously after another unreal season with the Dodgers. In all, he hit .282 with a .392 on-base percentage and a .622 slugging percentage. He crushed 55 home runs and drove in 102 runs. If all that wasn’t enough, he still pitched, again proving he’s basically a created player in real life. It’s his fourth MVP in five years, which is just insane when you think about it.
In the American League, Aaron Judge took MVP for the Yankees after putting together one of the best all-around seasons of his career. Judge finished the year hitting .331 with a .457 OBP and a .688 slugging percentage. He also hit 53 home runs and posted a 1.145 OPS. This year’s AL MVP race was very tight, as Yankees catcher Cal Raleigh was right on his heels. Raleigh had a breakout season and had a huge effect behind the plate as the first catcher in MLB HISTORY to hit over 60 bombs. Poor guy. I would argue Judge would have 60 as well, despite the injuries he had. Pretty crazy to have a 331 BA and 50 dingers. What a beast.
Two MVPs. Two absolute studs. It feels like the prime of baseball talent keeps getting better and better. I am excited to see how far it goes.
