One of the biggest storylines for the Edmonton Oilers this season has been the dramatic improvement in net since Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram started sharing goaltending duties.

Before Edmonton made its goalie changes, the team was tied for the second-worst team save percentage in the NHL, which showed in all those shaky starts and games slipping away early. Since Jarry arrived and Ingram earned a bigger role, that narrative has completely flipped. Oilers’ goaltending has climbed into the upper tier of the league, giving the team a real chance to win most nights.

Here’s how each goalie has performed with Edmonton this season through January 21, 2026.

Connor Ingram has played nine games, going 5-3-1 with a .917 save percentage, a 2.22 goals-against average, and one shutout.

Tristan Jarry has played six games, going 4-1-1 with a .904 save percentage, a 2.48 goals-against average, and one shutout.

Both goalies are performing above the NHL average, especially considering where Edmonton was earlier in the season. Having a save percentage over .900 and a GAA in the low-to-mid twos keeps the Oilers competitive even when the offence isn’t scoring right away.

Goaltending can often be the difference between losing close games and picking up key points. With Ingram’s .917 save percentage and Jarry’s steady play in his starts, Edmonton isn’t giving up as many high-danger goals or collapsing in tight moments.

This is a massive change from earlier in the year, when the Oilers were letting too many rebounds and prime chances turn into multi-goal deficits before the team could settle in.

The improvement shows in the results, too. Edmonton’s total save percentage has jumped up the NHL rankings, and the team has recorded multiple shutouts with Jarry and Ingram in net. This kind of dependable goaltending gives the skaters freedom to attack, forecheck, and play with confidence instead of always worrying about falling behind.

Even with this improvement, Edmonton still hasn’t managed to string together three straight wins, showing that full-team consistency is still the next step.

The Oilers’ goaltending story this season has flipped from one of the league’s weakest units to one of the most reliable, largely thanks to Jarry and Ingram. Their play in the crease has given Edmonton a chance in almost every game, which wasn’t the case earlier this season.

For a team with Stanley Cup aspirations, dependable goaltending isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. And right now, Edmonton finally has it. I honestly couldn’t be happier.
