Connor Ingram was called up by the Edmonton Oilers on Friday after goaltender Tristan Jarry left the action with an injury, forcing the club to once again adjust its crease plans. With Jarry’s status still unclear, Edmonton has turned to a familiar and resilient option to provide depth between the pipes.
Ingram, 28, joined the Oilers organization earlier this season and has spent most of the year with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL. In Bakersfield, he has appeared in limited action, posting a record of around 1-2-2 with a goals-against average north of 4.00 and a save percentage in the mid-.800s. While the numbers don’t jump off the page, they reflect a goaltender still working his way back into form while adjusting to a new system and role.
Despite the recent AHL struggles, Ingram brings significant NHL experience and a proven track record at the highest level. He has played in over 100 NHL games with stops in Nashville, Arizona, and Utah, and enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023-24 where he established himself as a reliable starter, winning over 20 games and recording multiple shutouts. That season earned him the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, recognizing his perseverance and dedication to the game.
Ingram’s career has been shaped by well-documented mental health challenges. He previously stepped away from hockey to enter the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program while dealing with obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and unhealthy coping habits. More recently, he re-entered the program following the passing of his mother and a difficult stretch that took a toll both personally and professionally. Ingram has been open about those struggles, becoming a respected voice around the league for mental health awareness.
Now, with the Oilers needing immediate goaltending support, Ingram’s recall represents more than just a roster move. It’s an opportunity for a veteran netminder who has battled through adversity on and off the ice to once again prove he can contribute at the NHL level.
There are also some rumours about the Oilers looking to make another trade. If Jarry is out for a while and Ingram is unable to give them the goaltending they require, they could look to trade for a goalie like Alex Lyon. I am curious to see if they will look to make another move or stick with the guys they have in an important part of their schedule.
As Edmonton awaits further clarity on Jarry’s injury, Ingram will be ready if called upon, offering experience, maturity, and resilience at a critical point in the season.
