The saga of Jack Hughes takes a surprising turn. According to sources, the playmaker for the New Jersey Devils slipped and cut his hand during a team dinner on Thursday night in what many are referring to as a “fluke accident.”
He won’t play in Saturday’s game in Washington, the team said, and is being further evaluated.
Hughes entered the season in stellar form: 10 goals and 20 points in the first 17 games.
It’s a huge blow to lose Hughes, one of the Devils’ core forwards. The timeline for return isn’t yet clear, and it raises questions about New Jersey’s forward depth, particularly down the middle. In the larger picture, with the 2026 Winter Olympics, there may be wider ramifications as far as Hughes’s participation is concerned at the international level.
I am hoping for Hughes this inst major. Updates to come.
