Holy blockbuster! Just a few hours after the Oilers made a big splash acquiring G Tristan Jarry, Minnesota one upped them by swinging a huge trade for former Norris winning defenceman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver. This is a massive deal that is the result of weeks of speculation regarding Hughes’ contract status and the direction the Canucks are going as an organization, and it signals the start of a significant retool in Vancouver.

In this deal Vancouver acquires Marco Rossi – who himself was the target of much trade speculation this summer -, highly touted D-Prospect Zeev Buium, another top prospect in Liam Ohgren, and Minnesota’s 2026 first round pick. Vancouver adds a few significant pieces that they’ve needed, namely a true top-6 center in Marco Rossi, whose youth should allow him to be a fixture for the Canucks for the foreseeable future. Buium and Ohgren should be some exciting future prospects for Canucks fans to follow, and first round picks are always valuable. Minnesota adds to an impressive blue line, and this trade signals their front offices belief that they can really make a contending push this season
