How much Money and Term will McDavid get?

McDavid has produced offence at an unprecedented rate since coming into the league, averaging 1.51 Points/Per-game, leading the league in scoring 5 times, and breaking the 100 point-mark every season of his career besides his rookie year and the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season. He has 3 MVP’s, 3 Ted Lindsay Awards, a Rocket Richard trophy, and a Conn Smythe Trophy. With all of this personal Silverware and the stats to back it up, as well as his untouchable marketability, McDavid essentially has the ability to tell the Oilers exactly how much money and term he wants on his next contract and have them agree to it. There has been a massive amount of speculation in regards to what both the term and AAV on his extension will be, and comparing McDavid to other recently signed superstars is a good way to try and guess at his next deal. Both Mitch Marner and Mikko Rantanen signed identical 8-year, 96-Million dollar contracts this year, and Leon Draisaitl’s 8-year, 112-Million dollar extension kicks in this summer. McDavid has had much more personal success than both Rantanen and Marner, and is still a level above his teammate Draisaitl, so it seems likely he will get a deal in the 15-18 Million dollar range. There have been numerous reports about McDavid looking for a 2-4 year contract instead of a maximum 8-year extension, and that kind of term makes sense both in regards to the rising salary cap and the Oilers current window of contention.

OFFICIAL PREDICTION: McDavid signs a 4-year Contract worth 16.5 Million dollars per-year with a full NMC.
